Aero Express to/from Baku city — bus to GYD

The Aero Express is the official scheduled bus service connecting Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) to central Baku. Both terminals are served, and the route runs around the clock — making it the cheapest reliable way to get between the airport and the city centre at any hour.

Route

The service runs between the airport (both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 stops) and Baku Railway Station — the building shared with metro station “28 May” in central Baku. There are intermediate stops at Surakhani Bridge and Koroglu metro station, both useful for reaching outlying districts.

Schedule and frequency

  • 06:00–23:15 — every 20 minutes
  • 23:15–06:00 (overnight) — every 45 minutes

Service runs 24 hours a day, every day. Even very early arrivals or late-night departures are covered.

Journey time

Approximately 30 minutes from the airport to Baku Railway Station / 28 May metro. The route uses the dedicated airport highway, but during weekday rush hours (07:30–10:00 and 17:00–20:00) journey time can extend by 15–20 minutes due to city-side traffic.

Fare and tickets

  • Single Aero Express trip: 1.30 AZN
  • Baku Card (rechargeable multipass): 2 AZN one-time card purchase, then trips deducted at the rate above. The card is also valid on Baku metro and city buses (0.40–1.00 AZN per trip on those services).

The Aero Express does not accept cash on board. You must have a Baku Card. If you’re arriving without one, buy one at the Baku Card terminals located near the bus stops outside the terminal exits — the machines accept manat cash and most international cards.

How to find the bus

From Terminal 1 (international): exit the arrivals hall on the ground level. The Aero Express stop is in the bus lane directly outside, signposted as “AEROEXPRESS H1”. Baku Card top-up terminals are right next to the stop.

From Terminal 2 (domestic): same procedure — bus lane outside the arrivals exit.

Luggage

The buses have luggage racks behind the driver area suitable for standard cabin and check-in suitcases. There is no formal weight limit, but consider a private taxi or pre-booked transfer if you’re carrying multiple oversized items, golf bags, sports equipment, or a child stroller.

Accessibility

Most Aero Express vehicles are low-floor with ramp access for wheelchairs and reduced-mobility passengers. If you need guaranteed accessibility, the official airport taxi with a Comfort-class LEVC TX London cab is fully wheelchair-accessible and available 24/7.

From “28 May” station onwards

Once at Baku Railway Station / 28 May metro, you can connect to:

  • Baku metro — both line 1 (red) and line 2 (green) interchange at 28 May. Most central tourist hotels are within 1–2 metro stops.
  • Suburban trains from Baku Railway Station to Sumqayit, Khirdalan and other regional destinations.
  • Taxis rank in front of the station for the final leg to your hotel.
